Took a long time & many post readings before I found a procedure that 
works great for SVCD conversions. At this point I feel comfortable 
grabbing any stream & converting to SVCDs that play without a flaw 
on mine, and many of my friends DVD players.

TiVo-> avi-> Adobe Premiere-> SVCD

Tools: TivoApp, Tyconvert, WinAmp, Sound Forge 4+, Premiere 6, 
DVD2AVI v1.74, LSX Premiere plugin.
Results: Great quality, lots of editing capabilities, takes time.

TiVo-> d2v-> SVCD

TMPGEnc 12j+
Results: Better quality, not so great editing, takes less time.

It helped me much. I use both of the procedures described in that 
thread by ModiStru. Depends on the stream to convert. If lots of 
editing is needed, I use the Premiere procedure.
