Roger,

I'm not sure what you're using for encoding, but if there's a quality setting, 
that's what I've been changing for testing sync issues. Using TMPGEnc on the 
fastest/poorest quality I can reencode an hour show in about 2 hours only 
using background processing. It's a little over an hour in the foreground (750 
MHz P3).

Just an idea...
