I have previously extracted some streams (most didn't work) using
ExtractStream and then used tyConvert.exe on the PC to get an MPEG
that I loaded into Premier, cut out the commercials and frame-served
into TMPGEnc to create an SVCD compliant stream. I viewed this on
the PC and on my DVD player. I didn't really mind the interlace
issues too much. On my computer, Windows Media Player uses the
PowerDVD codec to decode MPEG2, and I think it is doing some kind of
smoothing (or just a really bad decode job). I didn't notice any
problems with interlace, but maybe I'm just not picky?
I am having problems right now in that I can get the sector map
succesfully for FSID's on the second set of partitions (and the
sector map looks like valid values) but I'm still figuring out how
to map the sector map entries to actual physical sectors on the
second set of partitions.
The result of this is that I am successfully serving up tyStreams
over HTTP to Win2k if they are located on the first set of
partitions, but I am extracting random data from the second set at
the moment. Looks like another day or two until tyStreams over HTTP
is working for the second set of partitions. After that it's time
to figure out if the tyStream DEMUX / MPEG2 MUX can be done on the
Tivo side or not (without bringing the Tivo to it's knees).
