When you say software update, do you mean to 2.5.1? Make sure that
you're not recording the shows in VBR (the "space saving" setting) -
that might be causing your heartburn.

Otherwise, it'd be helpful to know what OS version you're running,
make/model of your Tivo, version of ES/SS/other you're running,
etc...
