Storing Tivo Video using DIVX

I have read several posts on this message board about people using
DIVX to store their Tivo movies. I went to DIVX.com to find more
information about the DIVX format. According to
http://www.divx.com/support/what.php , the DIVX codec is so advanced
that it can reduce an MPEG-2 video to ten percent of it's original
size.

I tried using several tools on the DIVX.com website to convert my
Tivo Mpeg-2 movies that was created using ExtractStream and Netplex
to the DIVX format. However, the resulting DIVX files were actually
larger than the orignal TIVO file. The original file was 121MB (10
minutes of video+audio). My first attempt was using FlaskMPEG with
the DIVX4.12 codec which resulted in a 180MB AVI file. My second
attempt was using FlaskMPEG with the Microsoft MPEG-4 Version 2
codec. This resulted in a 154 MB AVI file. My third and last
attempt used dvd2avi with the "DivX;-)MPEG4 Low-Motion" Compressor
and resulted in 2 separate output files totaling 80MB. Although
this was smaller than the original, I was hoping for an output file
of ten percent of the original size as the DIVX.COM website said
(that would have been 12.1 MB).

I would appreciate any input on this subject.

Thanks,
Xyombie
