RCA inputs on tivo

Has anyone attempted to play around with the RCA inputs on the back
of the tivo vs. internal configuration? It would seem to be possible
to hook up your VCR or DVD player to the inputs instead of a cablebox/
directv or whatever it was meant for, to capture video from a different
source. The reason I'd like to dig into this, is my son has some videos
that I'd like to make available right on the tivo (he can't reach the VCR
and DVD player to change movies).

Yes, they are.

DirecTivo is a Tivo designed to be used with DirecTv. It's 100% digital,
with no analog conversion taking place.
