Sure, it's *possible* (anything's possible) but even at 10Mbit, a
1-hour show recorded at High Quality takes 20-25 minutes to download
to a PC, so it's still going to be quite a long procedure to xfer a
file, even cablemodem -> cablemodem. 1/2 hour shows recorded at basic
quality (cartoons, or news clips) would be fine.

The software you're looking for would be "PlayItSam", written by
Warren Toomey, found here:

http://minnie.tuhs.org/Programs/Playitsam/

I personally haven't used it (yet, anyway - I'm one of those "extract
video to SVCD to play on a DVD-player guys) but it gives you of
editing the Tivo A/V Stream on the tivo, which will shrink filesizes
/ download times considerably, and can play tivo streams to/from any
Linux machine -- and it's not been tested yet, but I've compiled the
server software under Winders, and didn't receive any compile errors
or abends when I tried to run the software (but I didn't check to see
if it actually *did* it's job, so I can't say it "works" yet...)

If you do become interested in extracting Tivo video to SVCD to play
on a DVD-player, I have a how-to page here:

http://www.30below.com/~zmerch/tivo/index.cfm

I try to make changes/additions/improvements to the page at least
twice per month...

HTH,
Roger "Merch" Merchberger
