Nice try, but in my experience, no systemic failure is causing this.
Almost any process dying or being killed seems to be sufficient for some
monitor process on the tivo to inititate a reboot, and I'll bet it's a
controlled shutdown that you can hack by modifying certain files. Check
out what it does in /etc/inittab for instance - it should be switching
to runlevel 0.
