If you're extracting shows to view on your PC or to "tivoserve" back
to the tivo (or DVD-R), best quality is... ummm... the best. However,
if you're extracting to SVCD, I'd recommend that you record
everything at "high quality" as you'll spend less CPU time &
heartburn transcoding down to the 480x480 necessary for SVCD
compliance.

TivoApp locks XP? Ouch... or did you mean locks the Tivo?

Yes, as I understand it, mfstool changes the offsets of the MFS
partitions and TivoApp is probably barfing on bad info. I guess the
Tivo can handle it, so there's no apparent errors in operation, but
some utilities can get acute heartburn. Please understand that I've
never used mfstool, and I only have a 40G HD in my SA Philips Tivo,
so a lot of the problems others have mentioned I've never experienced
myself...
... in other words, I could be full of condensed milk, as my
father-in-law would have said ...
HTH anyway,
