M2V = _M_peg _2_ _V_ideo - There's no audio in the stream, so that's
why you don't hear anything...
M2A = _M_peg _2_ _A_udio - Open this rascal up in WinAmp or your
favorite MP3 player & you'll hear but not see...

Check out Scott's page - http://salfter.dyndns.org/tivo2svcd.shtml
- or my page - http://tivo.30below.com/zmerch
for more info... there are others on the web -- google is your friend
here... ;-)

*Best* is relative - especially as you've not told us what "this" is
- Are you planning on archiveing to VCD, SVCD, DVD, DivX, or just to
play on your computer? Scott's page and mine are geared towards
archiving to SVCD, other pages are geared towards DVD, others yet to
DivX; and the software you'll need changes dramatically with the type
of archiving you'll do. Let us know what you want to do, and we'll be
happy to help!

One piece of advice, tho: *convince* your significant other [if you
have one] for funds to upgrade your machine, if you don't have
something fairly new now... talk your boss into a nice payraise... or
both! I had a 1Ghz P3 which was a wonderful machine until I got into
this hobby -- at 8-9 hours per 45 minutes of encoded video (depending
on options, of course) it was tedious to try to archive everything my
wife wanted... ;-) I now have a Dual Athlon MP 1600+, SCSI drives to
be installed soon (160MByte/sec... Argh, Argh, Argh... ;-), and I'm
starting to keep a closer eye on the 2200+'s... [note to self... hit
pricewatch.com once I'm done with this email...] :-)
