Extraction FAQ?

Is there a FAQ anywhere that talks about extraction methods, etc.?

In looking at this forum, I see that there seem to be three or four
different extraction programs, but I can't really seem to glean what
their respective advantages are. They seem to have to do mostly with
how well they actually remove the MPEG streams from the tystreams.
Is the process of getting at the tystream equally good in each of
them?

Can I get a copy of the tystream on my peecee and feel confident that
it is correct so that I can delete the program from my TiVo (I'm
running out of room), and then worry about extraction and reencoding
at a later date?

So far in my experience, things seem to work best if I extract the
video and audio streams separately and them multiplex them together,
but I can't find an mplex for Windows, and I can't find a good
editing solution on my Unix machines. Anyone know of an mplex built
for Windows?

Also, does anyone know how to convert the MPEG2 streams into DV
streams so that I can edit it with iMovie on my MacOS X machine? (If
you can't tell, I seem to be transferring files back and forth
between all of my computers trying to get everything working.)

If some nice folks would help me figure all of this out, I'd be happy
to try to enumerate all the information in a FAQ if one doesn't
already exist.

Thanks very much.
