Oh my. This discussion is really getting out of hand. :)
Attention everyone, here goes:

My current sa-exim package drops a config sniplet in /etc/exim4/conf.d/
just the way it was supposed to, and the way the conf.d/ setup was ment
to be used. It also runs update-exim4.conf and restarts (SIGHUP's) the
daemon.

It does *NOT* check if the system where it was installed has a
monolithic configuration file, so it does *NOT* warn about manually
having to add the configuration line. *Yet*.

I *DO* intend to add such a check, but while talking that over on this
list, I get the idea that there is a difference between answering the
debconf question you want a monolithic configuration file, and having an
/etc/exim4/exim4.conf file. I'm not sure, since I've been using the
/etc/exim4/exim4.conf file ever since I installed Andreas' first exim4
packages. I'll have to talk this over with Andreas Metzler just to be
sure...

So: The sa-exim package will get a check for monolithic configurations,
and will most probably send a message or write a message to the console,
since using debconf for this kind of things is considered 'debconf
abuse'.
Also, either Marc will try to move important information from the
INSTALL file to the README file, or I will include the INSTALL file in
the Debian package, and give it a different name.

This way, the documentation will be clearer, the automated checks will
be smarter and everyone will be happy.

I also hope this message clears things up, so I can go and enjoy the
nice weather in the big blue room. ;)

Kind regards,
Sander.
