while that is a possible side effect, the true purpose of the hack it to 
allow people to create their own guide data when tivo can't/won't supply 
the proper data. examples of this are people who want the tivo to work 
outside the US/UK, people who are on special cable systems (like 
appartments and such), and people who are adding special channels to their 
lineup. Remember, the tivo service is more than just the guide data:

Guide Data
Software Updates
Tivolution Magazine
Network Showcases

While some people may choose to use the tivoguide utilities to bypass the 
subscription for guide data that they could get normally, i still feel its 
a good tool for anyone (even those inside the US) that has one of the 
situations listed or something similar.
