Different "Getting FSID's" question angle

Ok, all the solutions to getting the FSID's seemed to require the 
drive actually being _in_ the TiVo. I've got a two drive married pair 
that I'd like to rip some video off of that's currently sitting on 
the carpet next to me. Is there any way to get the FSID's and then 
how would I extract them once I got them. I supposed I could mount 
them in a linux box with byte-swapping enabled, right? Has anyone 
here ever been deranged enough to try this? :-)
